Trek

Gokyo Lake Trek

Turquoise glacial lakes and a panoramic summit view of four 8,000m peaks in the Khumbu

About this Package

Package Overview

The Gokyo Lake Trek takes you into the Gokyo Valley, a quieter branch of the Khumbu that most EBC trekkers never explore. The six Gokyo Lakes sit beside the Ngozumpa Glacier, Nepal's largest, at elevations between 4,700m and 5,000m. They are designated a Ramsar site and are sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. The summit of Gokyo Ri at 5,357m delivers what many consider the finest panoramic view in the Himalayas: four 8,000m peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu visible simultaneously. Compared to the EBC trail, it is less busy, more varied in scenery and rarely anything less than spectacular.

Package Highlights
Climb Gokyo Ri (5,357m) for a panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu at once
Trek to six sacred glacial lakes, the world's highest freshwater lake system
Walk alongside the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal
A quieter Khumbu route with fewer trekkers than the main EBC trail
Stay in Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, the most celebrated villages in Sherpa country
Optional exploration of the fifth and sixth lakes in a high alpine bowl beneath Cho Oyu
