Adventure

Java and Bali Explorer

Fourteen days across two of Indonesia's most compelling islands, from the volcanoes and temples of Java to the rice terraces and ceremonies of Bali

About this Package

Package Overview

Most visitors to Indonesia fly straight to Bali. This fourteen-day journey starts on Java and gives the country an entirely different introduction. Yogyakarta is the cultural heart of Java: wayang puppet shows, batik workshops, the Kraton royal palace and the ancient Hindu temples of Prambanan rising from the plain. Nearby, Borobudur is the largest Buddhist monument in the world, a ninth-century stupa complex with 2,672 relief panels carved in stone. The itinerary then moves east to the Ijen crater, where blue sulphuric flames burn at night inside an active volcano. A ferry crossing to Bali follows, through Ubud's rice terraces and cooking classes to a traditional ceremony and the Kecak fire dance at Tanah Lot. Java changes the way you see Bali and Bali is richer for having been preceded by Java.
